When there are Ghosts, there has to be Ghostly activities, and when there are Ghostly activities; there has to be someone to have a power over those eerie acts in order to cease them. As a response to this Mindy faith there appears exorcism, making a way into this picture.
Exorcism is a ritual act of warding off evil spirits or demons from individuals, places, or objects, which are believed to be haunted or overruled by them, or are accountable to become fatalities or gadgets of their malevolence.
In precise words, it is a ritual performed by an exorcist, to banish evil spirits from an individual, place or object. The term is functional to all those acts that demand chasing away or
frightening away demons or spirits and as rivaling those rites that aim at appeasing or evoking their impact and assistance.
There are numerous types of exorcism :
Simple exorcism, which entails blessing a place or thing liberate it from wicked power. Baptismal exorcism, which entails blessing an infant preceding baptism to cleanse it of evil. Real exorcism, which entails performance of the ‘Rite of Exorcism’, to free a human being of fiendish possession.
Despite the varied types of exorcism they hold same steps to be followed. They are as follows:
- Pretense - The demon veil its true identity and so this stage involve breaking this pretense and discovering the identity of the demonic entity. Unveiling the identity of entity is imperative.
- Breakpoint – As the pretense collapses, the entity discloses itself. This radiates a sight of terror and puzzlement that goes with an upsurge of violence, creepy sight, noises, and odors.
- Voice- The entity’s voices are calmed for the exorcism to ensue.
- Clash- There is an involvement of a straight battle between the exorcist and the evil entity. The exorcist influences the entity, to reveal more about him to get hold on it. There goes clash for the soul of the possessed.
- Expulsion- If the exorcist prevails, the evil spirit fritters away leaving the body of the possessed, seldom with thinning noises and voices. The victim may remember the torment or may not recollect anything that has happened.
The rituals of exorcism thus, are generally a string of prayers, holy statements and petitions. These recitations are accompanied by certain actions that are performed during the rite, like sprinkling of holy water on everyone present there, touching the subject with a Catholic object, laying hands on the subject and making the sign of cross on both, himself and the subject.
