Haunting, the term is often allied with Ghosts that bring along with them a sensation of panic in one’s mind. It is the chronic manifestation of bizarre and enigmatic phenomena such as caustic odors, horrifying sounds, concrete sensations and figments of imagination that are said to be engendered by Ghosts or Spirits affixed to a certain locality. A haunting can therefore be comprehended as persistent unnecessary visits of Ghosts, to agitate or harm human beings.

When explaining about a haunted location, it is the former home, or the place where the deceased embraced death. Haunted places also refer to those places, which were apparently frequented or backed by the deceased, and where steadily, incidents of violent death or other haunting takes place without any tactile explanations. Despite multiple explanations about haunting, a question that appears in our mind is, why in reality, does haunting take place?

Following are likely reasons for occurrence of haunting:
There is just a single reason for occurrence of haunting, and that is; the spirit of a human remain bound to this plane. Now, another question that steps in is what causes those spirits to remain earthbound and impede their progress? Here, are some reasons that bind them behind:

• Physical attachment to their beloved.
• A desire or responsibility, which has remained incomplete due to sudden demise and that the spirit intends to complete now.
• Material Attachment, the spirit is reluctant to leave earthly belongings.
• An urge to get justice or take revenge, if the spirit is been murdered ruthlessly.
• Confusion of whether he is living or dead.

However, there are no general patterns to haunting, as some phenomena are reported to occur occasionally, and others recurrently over duration that can range from few days, months or to a few centuries. Also, not everyone, who visits or stays in a haunted locality, is vulnerable to experience such occurrences.
Most haunting encompasses scary sounds such as footsteps, whisperings, tapping’s, wallops, frightening echoes, animal howling or odors of decayed flesh or perfume. Some haunting also mark ghostly animals like, pet dogs and cats, which can be seen, heard or felt in the haunted vicinity. People are prone to sense an existence of evil, and often experience negative emotions, when at a haunted place. However, not all haunting’s have Ghosts that are hostile and destructive. There are some congenial and benign Ghosts too.    

Let me answer you, before the next question bangs on your mind. Haunting’s can at rare times be brought to an end by means of exorcisms, conducted by the Exorcist who can drive away those ghostly spirits and free the place from evil clutches. However, some haunting ceases on their own pact, for causes to be discovered yet!
